I maintain that “the people” will elect the kind of “representation” they deserve. This applies to elections on the local, state, and national levels. Sometimes they won’t tell you truthfully WHY they voted a particular way until they’re drunk but the reasons are always good ones – to them!
The ones I cannot fathom are the ones who are too lazy or too disaffected to vote at all; using the excuse that “they” (the ubiquitous “they”) all so corrupt that it doesn’t MATTER if I vote or not!
If you are an American, then you are REQUIRED to vote in EVERY election available to you, legally. It is NOT a choice you’re allowed to make and bypass if it doesn’t happen to ‘fit’ into your oh-so-busy schedule! Is it a law that you vote? No. But that does NOT give anyone permission to avoid performing the right, some refer to it as a duty, granted us by the Constitution. It is a RIGHT granted you by that document – a RIGHT, not a privilege – as some would have you believe!
And, as a RIGHT, it must be seized and held closely. There will be no one pounding on your door to force you to vote – that is sometimes the procedure in force in totalitarian states. But there may be someone at the voting station to KEEP you from voting, if you’re quiescent and meek about demanding your rights as a citizen of this country!
