It’s ok to like multiple genres of music! My home made CD collections have Elgar next to Jim Croce then Black Sabbath, Abba, the Zombies, Queen, Chris de Burgh, Marillion, a bit of thrash metal, some country, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, and so on.

Not better as such, but it shook up the industry and brought in a lot of new musicians – it was such a powerful movement that a lot of good musicians were able to come to the fore and get noticed. Bands often took elements of punk and re-worked it, or used the vibe.

I was going to say that!

Urgh, I loathed punk! However it did shake up the music industry no end, which was a good thing.

generally speaking, the teachings of religious founders are, for their era, quite positive in their attitude towards women – and the dogma around a faith was invariably written up by a man! It is fairer to say that cultures are more likely to place excessive controls or blame on women, and then tie their main religion into these restrictions. All Abrahamic religions have their difficulties with some of their sub-groups taking an extreme line. And there are plenty of sub-cultures who like to see women cast as second class citizens with no or highly prescribed rights and freedoms. it’s not not the only religious ones who cast women in the role of second class citizens.

Most of the people I know with a doctorate have it in various science fields (physics, maths, medical research, etc etc etc). However the amount of work and research required to gain a doctorate (in the UK at any rate) is prodigious, whatever your subject. I’ll gladly call someone ‘doctor’ if they’ve gone through that. Most people though aren’t bothered about being called ‘doctor’ though – but obviously use the title professionally.

Thank you! It drives me mad when vets, dentists etc in America and Canada are called ‘doctor’ (unless they have done a PhD of course). i remember in a book by an American vet where he sneered at someone who had the title ‘Doctor’ because they had a doctorate in astrophysics or suchlike, and the vet said that this person was not a ‘real’ doctor like him. Dentists and vets are well qualified persons who should be justly proud of their training and careers without calling themselves a doctor.

You’re quite right, I was assuming there was one off picture on the lady running away on the far left. Tut tut, I shouldn’t assume!
