I just had some work done, and was worried the bright light would scorch the retina, but the surgeon said it isn’t bright as for instance the sun, and it isn’t for a long enough time to do damage. You aren’t supposed to hang your head down when you’ve just had a lens replaced, though, and the iris is injected with something to shrink the pupil after they’re done looking & working inside, to keep the side pieces from falling out of place. Having one pupil adjusting normally and the other a pinpoint makes you look creepy.

Multum in parvo—simple concept, yet drawn in detail. No extravagant effects, but much to see: every raindrop tracked; minimalist faces but we can recognize individuals even bundled up in rain gear or covered in mud; few words, but fitting characters that have been built and shaped over the years till we believe and care about them. Ordinary situations, yet vivid and memorable.

We didn’t use to take that risk seriously (and ticks were less prevalent back when we had serious winters).

Just cuz so-called adults do it, doesn’t mean it’s adult behavior.
