   The church is and has always been a hierarchy.

   That is my interpretation of what happened.Your interpretation is that God spoke to this conclave of men who accurately decided what books were the actual history of both the Jewish nation and of Christ’s time on earth and the acts of his followers.

   As examples you are claiming that God made a wager with Satan AND the gospel of Thomas, and man who was with Jesus is not divinely inspired.

   The council of Nicea chose books that aligned with the hierarchical nature of the church. It was a successful attempt at standardization of doctrine.

   Again to stand on the notion of divine selction of the standard Bible you must also accept the book of Job as God’s Word, where God punishes a believe because of his faith

   This is also a attempt to placate the faithful by saying bad things happen to good people and you just have to accept it.

   The US government has had horrible and even murderous policies in the past from slavery to Indian relocation. Japanese internment and eugenics. The government turned a blind eye to lynching.

   How much of a stretch is it to LGBT internment and immigrant concentration camps?

    I disagree. I think that ar owners may go to church more than most Americans but I have a few republican friends that own an arsenal and claim to be religious but " can’t seem to find the right church"
