It’s past time for evidence-based gun law reform, beginning (but not stopping) with funding studies of gun laws and crime. Set 21 as the minimum age to purchase or own most firearms, with specific exceptions (like .22 rimfire). Fund NICS so all firearm transfers are quickly reviewed, require NICS approval for every firearm transfer, and require that citizens are only placed on the NICS disapproved list through due process. If you want compliance, make it easy and fair.
Because I am a gun owner, and actually enjoy it as a hobby, I would like to see firearm safety taught in school, and even basic marksmanship, but that’s an argument for another day.
Please – never demand “common sense gun laws” without defining them. Some versions of this are ignorant (what is “the gun-show loophole”?) and some are just impossible or (deliberately) prohibitive.
