Vulture.com Applauds 'Millennial-Approved' Update of 'Nancy'
by Stephen RothWriter Abraham Riesman recently caught up with Nancy creator Olivia Jaimes for a profile of sorts on Vulture.com, the entertainment site for New York magazine.
The article, titled, "The Pseudonymous New Cartoonist Giving 'Nancy' a Millennial-Approved Update," opens with Jaimes huddled in a storage closet prior to her first public - albeit incognito - appearance at September's Cartoon Crossroads Columbus comic convention. While Jaimes' true identity remains a secret, we do learn that she's a fan of NBC sitcom The Good Place. So there's that.
The story applauds Jaimes' skill at portraying Nancy and her friends as elementary-age kids with modern sensibilities:
Jaimes’s “Nancy” is eminently of the Zeitgeist. Impetuous Nancy and her doughy pal and sometime flame Sluggo are now addicted to their phones and social media and deeply cynical about the world around them. In one strip, Nancy, typing away on her phone, tells a friend she’s mad that Sluggo forgot they had a date. The friend points out that Nancy has been typing for half an hour and asks what she’s writing. “Oh, gibberish,” Nancy replies in panel three as we see random letters in her texting app. The final panel is split: On the left, Nancy with a grin says, “But he doesn’t know that”; on the right, Sluggo sweats bullets as he sees his own text window read, “Nancy is typing …”
Of course, you can track the Nancy reboot all the way from its April 2018 origin - along with older Nancy strips - right here on GoComics.com. Happy reading!

In other words, Nancy has become a total piece of crap. Good to know I haven’t missed anything.

In other words, Nancy of all strips is the sharpest comic in 2018. But yeah, I don’t think you’d enjoy it.
