Mom: Petey! I think it's great you're going to play soccer again! You kind of liked soccer last time you played, right? Petey: GROAN. Mom: You liked the pizza party at the end of the season! And you've got the little trophy on your shelf! Petey: Yeah... but they spelled my name "Pevey" on the trophy. Mom: They spelled it "Pevey" on your jersey, too. That was like your secret identity! Petey: GROAN. Can I be Pevey this time, too?
I had nicknames; one that I did not choose was Virginia Dare (related to a beverage at the time) because I was named Virginia D— and was likely to take a dare -even for something that was a little off the chart. Kids can be mean, but I did not let that bother me - go Pevey!
