And this explains why Evangelical Christians LOVE Trump. “God said it and that settles it.” God, in this case, being Trump.
Science is not for the wimpish. It answers a lot of things but not everything. Even when it does “answer” a question, that answer is subject to change upon new discoveries that contradict it. People don’t like change. This applies even to scientists who sometimes hold onto their pet theory long after the facts have put it in the grave. They will put band aid after band aid on the corpse hoping to resurrect it.
Tell me something that I like to hear. Tell me that it’s true. Tell me it will never change. Now that’s comfortable. Once I wrap my mind around the concept, I’ll never have to use it again. Don’t make me think. Tell me what to do and how to act. I like that. I absolves me entirely of any responsibility for my actions.
I’m not picking only on Trump supporters here. This is simply human nature. 80% (my estimate based on about 60 years of observation) of people are sheep. They do not want to lead. They do not want to take responsibility. They do not want to think for themselves, especially when that though might contradict what they already believe. It is much easier to follow the herd whether the herd is going right or left or off a cliff.
So by my estimate, 80% of the people are anywhere from mildly anti-science to totally anti-science.
Up next: the correlation between people who believe in alien abductions and ancient astronauts and Trump supporters.
