Excellent “simile” Mr. Davies – unfortunately, it will be “missed” by a large proportion of Donnie John’s adherents, Americans, for the most part, are now inculcated with the idea that “breaking the law” is okay as long as no one is “hurt” – and they think they’re the ones that should be allowed to determine whether “injury” occurs.
As I used to point out, the ONLY difference between “jaywalking” and sexual molestation of a minor is in degree – they’re BOTH breaking the law in a general sense. Almost all of us have “committed” the former while almost none of us have “committed” the latter, but they’re both against the law (and let’s not quibble over semantics; you KNOW what I mean!)
Societal rules are societal rules and you DON’T get to choose which to follow and which to ignore!
