The Trump endorsement, in the words of Mitt R-money in the wake of the crushing defeat of Herschel Walker, is “the kiss of death” for Republican candidates in general elections. It gives them a big leg up in the primary, but then they lose in the general unless it is a deep, deep red state.
Every new candidate for senate, governor or secretary of state that was endorsed by Trump in a state that could plausibly go either red or blue lost, except for J.D. Vance in his Ohio senate race. In contrast, Republicans who ran away from Trump or who Trump had opposed in primaries, won in significant numbers.
TRUMP IS A LOSER, and so are the candidates he supports.
(Apparently, the day before a full moon turned out not to be the most auspicious day for a wannabe werewolf to try to win an election.)
This may finally spell the end of people who know better — who hate Trump and what he has done to their party — but keep their lips planted firmly on his rear end for fear of his base. They can overlook the ADMITTED sexual assault (bragging about it on tape), the flagrant, frequent, serial cheating on all three of his wives, the credible allegations of rape, the financial crimes, the tax cheating, Trump “University” and Trump charities frauds, stealing from charities, even the treasonous stealing of classified documents.
But losing winnable senate (or governor or secretary of state) races? THAT is unforgivable for a party that has lost even the pretense of any semblance of principle and exists ONLY for the purpose of winning elections and consolidating dictatorial, tyrannical power over private citizens’ personal lives.
