Ordinary Basil. Discovering a coal chute to sneak into the fortified house, Basil begins his search for the cell holding Louise. Being covered in coal soot from his slide down the chute allows Basil to remain undetected while moving through the immense labyrinth. But there are so many doorways and intersecting hallways, it's easy to get lost. So far, dumb luck has been on his side. But Basil knows he can't depend on that. He needs a plan. Just as his task seems to go from difficult to impossible, an oddly tall man appears. The man's slow, purposeful gait suggests that he's someone of importance. Perhaps he'll lead the way to Louise's cell. Echoing through the hallways is the constant, methodical noise of machinery. It's getting louder now. As he peeks around a corner, Basil's eyes bulge in disbelief. Fortunately, his reflexive gasp is smothered by the incessant racket of chains and grinding gears. "What is this place?" he stammers.
