Lucy sits on the floor, surrounded by building blocks. She clasps herself and declares, "I'm hungry." Charlie Brown sits in the far corner of the room, reading.<BR><BR> She holds her hands to her mouth and thinks, "I wonder if I dare ask Charlie Brown to fix me a san'wich?..He always gets so mad..."<BR><BR> She sits up on her knees and clasps he hands together. "Will you make me a bread an' budder san'wich, Charlie Brown? Please?" He looks at her.<BR><BR> "If it isn't one thing, it's another.." Charlie Brown sighs as he walks off.<BR><BR> "I suppose the butter will be as hard as a rock.." Charlie Brown says grumpily as he opens the refrigerator door.<BR><BR> He holds up a stick of butter and frowns: "I knew it!"<BR><BR> "RATS! I'll never be able to cut this!!" he groans as he stands on a chair and leans over the table. He struggles with the knife.<BR><BR> "All I get is lumps! RATS!" Charlie Brown chops up small hunksm up butter.<BR><BR> "The bread keeps tearing! Rats!" He throws up his arms. His face is turning red with frustration.<BR><BR> "Why can't Lucy make her own sandwiches?" he wails, shutting his eyes. [PANEL 11}: "This is driving me crazy! I can't stand it!" He crawls across the tabletop and tries to spread the butter. [PANEL 12]: "Here! Eat this, and don't say a word!" Charlie Brown hands Lucy crumpled bread and butter crumbs.<BR><BR>
Microwaves sure make life easier, but the bread and butter sandwich seems to be a thing of the past anyway. The question is, where is her mother?
