Not at all. He is playing along with Cynthia’s game masterfully. Since she demonstrated ability in French, he’s willing to help her avoid the pate and get what she really wanted, but he still wants the order to be in French (albeit mangled). The one detail that does not ring true is that he should have said “pommes”, not “pomme”.
