“TGS - you misunderstood me. I did not say empathy for a group, though I can see where you might interpret that from my reference to the Supreme Court. Understanding how a decision affects individuals – all individuals – is an act of empathy, too”
I didn’t misunderstand you as much as you have misunderstood Obama. He clearly states that judges should have empathy for people of minority status. That cannot mean anything else other than ruling differently because a person is of one of those groups. READ his words, it’s all right there.
That is not justice it’s preference. This NEW idea that the law has to be ruled by empathy instead of equality is a spit in the face of the founding fathers who fought and died for the exact opposite.

“What law?”
Paying your taxes is not law? Since when?
“Actually, once it was brought to their attention, they all DID pay their taxes in full”
I didn’t say that they didn’t EVENTUALLY pay their taxes. Several of these people didn’t pay their taxes for YEARS. You’re trying very very very hard to make it look like nothing wrong was done. They only paid those taxes because they were looking to get into the cabinet.

I read his definition of what empathy is versus sympathy and my point still stands. If you have empathy for a person because he belongs to a certain group then eventually they get special treatment.
That is neither just nor fair. That is not what our constitution says.

“Take that bone out of your nose and call me back” (to an African American female caller).
Again, you’re using a stupid quote of his (which no one can seem to find a clip of even though all of his shows are taped) and not debating him on his politics. You’re using this quote as a way to ignore anything else he’s said.
On Michael J. Fox.. He made a mistake and though Fox was overacting his disease. Does that make him wrong on EVERYTHING else he’s ever said? See again, you’re using one thing to completely dismiss everything else.
“Too many whites are getting away with drug use…”
That’s true! I would think a Liberal like you would recognize that there are more blacks and latinos in jail for drug use than whites in the first place.
“I am addicted to prescription pain medication.” –in 2003
Well aside from proving the quote beforehand true, I find it interesting that when a Liberal gets in trouble for substance abuse they are “courageous” and “brave” to admit they have a problem but terrible when a conservative does. That’s called hypocrisy.

“TGS, do you know what an ad hominem attack is?”
Do you?
“Dick is treated with derision because he is acting like a cranky old bastard.”
Asking Obama to release ALL of the gitmo records instead of handpicked snippets to further his cause is being cranky? Is any criticism of Obama ever going to be acceptable? Or will his critics be labeled “cranky old bastards” or “mean spirited” or “racist” for the next four years?

Kind of reminds me of the Saudi’s “Miss beatiful morals” pagent.
Show how much you follow liberal orthodoxy and win a prize!

Unfortunately for all of you, empathy is not something a judge should have when applying the law to a case. There is a reason that statue of justice has a blindfold on it afterall.
This is a slippery slope. Once you start trying to see how the person feels and why they feel that way, then you’ll be basing justice on the group the person belongs too, not the individual.
What’s to stop a judge feeling “empathy” for a minority in a robbery case? He could very well say that since the minority is oppressed or feels like he is oppressed he could never afford the things he stole and therefore we shouldn’t be too hard on him. If you think that’s too far fetched then explain why Obama said the following:
“The empathy to understand what it’s like to be poor, or African-American, or gay, or disabled, or old. And that’s the criteria by which I’m going to be selecting my judges.”
Does the law change for you if you are gay? black? old? Absolutely not, if you break the law you should be punished no matter who you are. There should be no special consideration for race, gender, or sexual orientation because anything else would be INJUSTICE for people not of those groups.

“Does it also reflect the over halving of the deficit by 2013?”
Halving a 1.8 trillion dollar defecit is still about 2 times more than the 2009 defecit. Please realize that promising to half something that you QUADRUPLED is still ripping off the tax payers.

You’re missing the point entirely daniel. Geithner and the SEVERAL others on Obama’s staff that didn’t pay their taxes broke the law. Why would Obama appoint these people when they don’t even follow the law in the first place? Especially to be IN CHARGE of collecting taxes?
“I never said one thing makes him wrong on everything, nor indeed have I said he’s wrong on everything. Strawman.”
Then why bring up things that were either taken out of context or didn’t have anything to do with his Obama fail comment? or his opposition to the “stimulus” package? That’s the real reason they’re attacking him, not some stupid quote from 10 years ago. Stop projecting on me with YOUR use of strawmen.
“No, that’s called “strawman”. You have no evidence to back up your all-or-nothing claim. “Hypocrisy” is when any individual, liberal or conservative, demands mandatory jail time for all white addicts, and then quickly changes his tune when he becomes one.”
No, what’s hypocrisy is that Hollywood (which is serverly Liberal) has nothing but drug addicts and losers that slap each other’s back when they are addicted to drugs but then unleash hell on Rush for the same thing. That’s a clear sign of what I was talking about, I didn’t just make it up. Just because you don’t want to admit doesn’t make it untrue.
