   ejcapulet: Excessive teabaggery I assume.

   In response to some of the comments yesterday, Breathed was anti-Aggie in this strip because it was published in the student newspaper at the University of Texas! Texas/Texas A&M is a major rivalry, and the Aggie jokes flow like water at the 40 Acres. His personal politics probably do lean to the left, but that’s not related at all to the jokes in yesterday’s strip.

   Her mother isn’t being fair. Yes, Brandy may be in the neighborhood of 175 pounds, but 150 of that is in her chest.

   I think showing the strip with Garfield immediately after the strip minus Garfield kills a lot of the effect. It would be better to have the “with Garfield” strip be a clickable link or something.

   This one on its own looks like a pretty good “demented Jon” one, but when you immediately see the exact same strip with one line and an orange cat added, it kills the humor of the “minus Garfield” one before your brain even has time to really process it.

   It was “tomato” when it was printed in the book too. Is tomato the original or is chick? Personally, I think tomato is funnier just because it’s an inherently more humorous word, but I’d really like to know which was the original.

   Whoever tagged this as “MORE BS–IF IT WERE TRUE GRAMPS WOULD BE DEAD” needs to get a clue. Pencil “lead” has never been made from the (toxic) element known as lead. It has always been graphite. Graphite is simply a form of carbon, and is not harmful. I’ve known plenty of people with small pieces of graphite stuck in their skin with absolutely no ill effects, even after years or even decades.

   The reason pencil lead is called lead is because when solid graphite was discovered in the 16th century it was thought to be a form of lead, not because actual lead was ever used in pencils.

   You know, not so long ago a “dual breed” dog was just called a “mutt”.

   On further review, the fact that Steve asks for a pen leads me to believe he has to be talking about the column in the Daily Texan. If you look at recent installments (Google it), it appears to be a place for people to basically write letters to the editor arguing about various sensitive topics.

   Firing Line was a long-running series on PBS that included, among other things, formal debates. There’s also a column in the Daily Texan (UT’s student newspaper) called The Firing Line, but I’m not sure if it was around when these were published or not.

   Either way, though, it would be a forum to debate the issues of the day.

   I think what he’s getting at is your prepaid burial plot is the only land you’re going to own after you lose the house, so you get to live in it until you die. Saves on burial expenses too!
