Let me get this straight. Calvin has been acting as if Hobbes is a real tiger for how long? Is now claiming he followed Hobbes to the kitchen and Mom is wondering why the tuna? Hmmm, denial or incipient Alzheimers?
Hobbes serves as Calvin’s Ego. The “secret” is something Calvin already suspects, but can’t admit to himself. Probably something he’s overheard his parents discussing. Calvin is observant but, being mostly Id-driven, he usually interprets badly.
They won’t get far. Ros should make popcorn and wander out in the yard with the fragrant and enticing bowl. Calvin is undoubtedly cowering behind a tree wondering what she’s been doing. She should ignore him and return to house, “accidentally” dropping pieces of popcorn behind her. Will Calvin figure out the ruse?
My childhood dog loved to romp in the leaves, even when us kids were in school. One day we left the rake (a bow rake) under the pile and poor Butch got pronged. My Mom bandaged his leg, but we all felt bad. Butch never jumped in leaves again.
In our area we rake our leaves into piles by the road and the town has a big, noisy leaf-vacuum shredder truck that picks them up.
Years ago a little girl hid in a pile of leaves at the curb waiting to surprise her Dad when he came home. Daddy +parking at the curb = not good outcome.
It may be good that Calvin is scared of THE PILE.
