Yup, that’s the basic history. The ban on tartans (set in an attempt to pacify the fighting tribes) was repealed less than 40 years later. The tartan as national dress is less than 200 years old, and “official” family tartans not much older. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tartan
I never thought I’d be defending the wiki-nazis, but actually, it’s their uber pedantic natures that keep Wiki mostly valid as a source of information. Alas, there are still a-holes who deliberately change entries and blank sections, but that’s not necessarily the fault of all the wikidiots.
