Just an old fart who enjoys humor in all shapes and sizes. I am the "hermit on the hill", and I like it that way.

Seems we went through the software ownership issue a few decades ago, especially with Microsoft. We didn’t own it but we did have exclusive use of it… for a fee of course.

Trying to come up with a witticism, but all I do if flounder. I won’t carp, though. I just come here for the halibut. I’ll perch my bass in the corner and watch the puns roll in.

Similar story. Moved there in 04 to take a new job. Wasn’t a huge football fan but did enjoy some of the playoff games. My Son in Law is a big fan and got me hooked on KC. We still compare notes even though we’re across the country from him. I didn’t know that first QB you mentioned, but have enjoyed watching the others. Have a good day.

KC? I hear they have a football team… (I’m a former MO resident. I miss KC)

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I get grumpy when my screeds go unanswered.

Working backwards; I think my reply to the Count went into the wrong bin. No big deal. His original post is still up.

Swearing on a bible or swearing to tell the truth… what’s the point? I’d be more inclined to swear on a dictionary. Many courts no longer add that phrase, knowing that it really serves no purpose.

Don’t confuse “god” with “church”. The two serve each other conveniently, but otherwise have no connection. Meaning that the church can’t make law and the state can’t make religion. Having a god in your life doesn’t require a church. Our coins don’t say “In Baptists We Trust”. And “under god” wasn’t added until the mid 50s. It wasn’t thought necessary before that. I don’t know why it was added other than to appease a religious group.

Lastly, as an atheist who was indoctrinated in the aforementioned Baptist Church, I find myself drawn into discussions about religion. The more I talk to people about their god and religion, the more I embrace my position. So yeah, I care about your beliefs, if only to strengthen mine, but I couldn’t care much less otherwise.

Now, go forth and sin no more…

Which god? I hear there are many. And, are you referring to the land mass called “America” and if so, which of the Americas are you requesting to be blessed? I think the land was “blessed” by nature and it’s beauty.

If you are instead referring to the United States of America, that is a legal entity and as such can not legally be “blessed” by any supernatural being. We made that clear long ago. We refer to it generically as the separation of church and state. That ideology has been around for a very long time.

Is “god bless America” a prayer? If it is, keep it to yourself. Your bible tells you not to pray in public. Yes, I’m assuming the KJV. If it’s not a prayer, is it a demand? Is it appropriate for you to demand something of your god? If so, what results are you expecting?

Lastly, does your prayer-demand apply only to “America” or can other land masses enjoy the benefits of said blessings?

For the record, I’m atheist, so I couldn’t care much less, as long as the wishes are well intended. If, for some bizarre reason, I had to pick a religion, I’d be a Jainist. If by chance they’re not accepting applications, I’d go with “Born-again Pagan”. Suits my lifestyle better.
