My favorite finn photo

maureenmck Premium

Need my daily fix of "Agnes," "The Barn," and "Scary Gary" with my morning coffee & meds. Also hooked on "The Dogs of C-Kennel," "Non Sequitur," and at least a couple of dozen others. The photo at top is of my Malti-Poo, Finnegan .... At 74 years of age, I haven't been willingly photographed in 20 years.

Calvin‘s comment of “all teeth and digestive tract” reminds me of the Stephen King story, made into a TV miniseries in the 90s, “The Langoliers.”

I remember all of those stores and so many more that have now been gone for decades. My first job was in 1967 at a W.T. Grant department store. I managed the housewares department during the summer between high school and college. The first Grant’s store opened in 1906 and the last one closed in 1976.

Yes, she has an amazing 5 octave vocal range, but range is not the only marker of how talented a singer is. Personally, I can’t listen to her! Mariah Carey doesn’t sing. She screams!

My son is working for UPS this month as a holiday temp. He is a driver’s helper. The $20 hourly has been a great help to our household! Yesterday, he worked 9 hours, delivering to 190 stops. The driver did the planning, organizing, paperwork, and so on. My son did all the actual deliveries … up and down stairs with some very heavy packages — not as easy now at 46 than when he did similar work 25 years ago. He is not complaining, and is grateful to have the work, but he comes home with painfully aching feet, as well as every other body part. But, as I said, he’s just happy to have the job.

As I read the comments, the fairly recent grammatically incorrect use of the word “fun” kept popping into my head. The remainder of my post is a direct quote from the site ‘English language and usage stack.’ —Almost any elementary school teacher will tell you, it’s grammatically incorrect to say “as fun” or “so fun.” In these instances, “as” and “so” are adverbs, and “fun” is a noun, and adverbs never modify nouns. The noun “fun” should be modified with the preposition “much,” as in “as much fun” or “so much fun.

My favorite Donovan song is “Catch the Wind,” and I always liked “Season of the Witch” — although the lyrics to that one are just about as nonsensical as “Mellow Yellow.” I remember seeing him in concert here in Connecticut sometime back in the late ’60s. Just him, with his acoustic guitar, sitting barefoot on small rug in the center of the stage. I know he must’ve had accompaniment but when I think back, I see only Donovan sitting on the floor with his guitar.

Coincidence … at the moment, I have the television on and I’m watching a 2018 Candace Cameron Bure holiday movie, “A Shoe Addict’s Christmas.”
