I don’t know whether we still have microfilm but around 2011, a librarian at one library I go to was concerned when one company stopped microfilming the local paper. There was something called NewsBank but at the time that service was only doing text, and I’m not sure it was doing all of the articles. There were parts of the paper she wanted to preserve and she did find out NewsBank did microfilm, so that company was used for a while, and she made sure the local paper got to the company to microfilm it. Later, that library started making a digital copy of every paper which was made available to people at her library. Microfilm was no longer needed. Around that same time NewsBank started preserving the papers as they appeared, not just the text of many of the articles. I found out this was being done when I tried to look at microfilm at this one library and they sent me to NewsBank. No other library in the area was getting microfilm.
There’s a park near where I live with signs reminding us to clean up after pets. All over the place is what certain animals who aren’t pets have done.
