Does Chesney know that the name of the Canary Islands comes from the old Roman name “Canariae Insulae”, meaning “Islands of the Dogs”? It’s not a reference to the little yellow birds. If not, this could get interesting.

You’re right. The coloring threw me — I didn’t really look at the shapes.

Also interesting that Flattop has a Dead Man’s Hand (black aces and eights). Foreshadowing? (As Burke Breathed said wya back when: “your guide to quality literature”.)

There’s a really fun French comedy, Let The Be Light (Que la lumière soit) (1998), in which God writes a screenplay and goes to Hollywood to have it made. After He’s kicked out of there, He goes to France (the birthplace of cinema) and recruits a young director who ends up using the inmates of an insane asylum to make the film.

    My favorite line:

VOICE OF GOD: I wrote the Bible — the best selling book of all time! Where do they get off editing my script?

“so-called Cyrillic Alphabet”? What do you think it should be called?

So the husband drove the body of his murdered wife up to the summer cabin in their car. He then dumped the body and left the car at the cabin — otherwise the obvious question wold be how did the wife get to the cabin if the car weren’t there. So how did the husband get back home to call Inspector Danger and report his wife as missing? I can think of a couple of explanations — he had a motorcycle mounted at the back of the car and rode that back home — but no such details are established in the strip. So, as far as I can tell, when the husband is put on trial, his lawyer has a pretty solid defense that would, at the very least, raise reasonable doubt in the minds of the jury.

“Listen, and understand! That [Vacuum] is out there! It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are [hairless].”

@Arcaton I haven’t seen Flask kill anyone except topsiders.@DADOF3 This is a really good argument. If that were the case, I’d agree with you. Unfortunately, there’s been nothing in the strip to suggest that it is the case.If anything, what we’ve seen so far suggests that the topsiders resources are as limited as Endtown’s. The fact that they need so many robots suggests that their numbers are limited and the fact characters like Wally could survive for so long on the surface suggests that topsider bases are few and far between. The territory between those bases would be vast and, except for the occasional patrol, uncontrolled.Given that, it could be argued that by eliminating this particular topsider enclave, Flask would expand the amount of uncontrolled territory significantly, thus buying Endtown a whole bunch of time. Further, by making it look like the destruction was caused by the base’s own misfired rocket, the other bases could see it as an accident and make only a token investigation. They’d have no reason to suspect the existence of Endtown.Of course, the actions of Petey and Wally have pretty much screwed up that plan, making it almost certain that the topsiders will become aware of the existence of Endtown. And, given the character traits the topsiders have displayed so far, that’s likely to bring about the very destruction of Endtown you describe.

Way back, when Wally left a topsider unconscious but alive, the topsider repaid the kindness by killing Ally’s two friends. When the two topsiders captured Wally and Holly a short time ago and were preparing to cut their brains out, they were making snide and cruel jokes about giving them consecutive serial numbers. When our heroes invaded the launch site they encountered literally hundreds of robots, each run by a brain brutally cut out of someone’s head.Everything we’ve seen about the topsiders shows them to be cruel and vicious bastards, caring only for themselves — even the newly transformed koala has expressed concern only for other topsiders. And Flask is the villain?!You people have a seriously screwed up sense of morality.

Presumably the MODOK-style battlesuit that would allow him to express his displeasure when any of his wants aren’t promptly catered to.
