I don’t know where it comes, but you’re missing some lines:

We will all go to our respective Valhalla’s.

Go directly, do not pass Go, do not collect 200 dalla’s.

If the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact passes enough states, the states that are part of it will give their electoral votes to the popular vote winner, regardless of the winner within the individual states. 205 Electoral Votes worth of states are a part of it, with it pending in another 63 EVs of states. Leaving only 2 more to tip the balance.

    “No?”

No. Wikipedia has a good explanation of the problem and solution. Search it for “Monty Hall Problem”.

Did you know that in 2016, Trump got more votes in California than in Texas? And Biden got more votes in Texas than in New York? Because of the EC, all votes for Trump in CA were ignored, and all votes for Biden in TX were ignored. You act as if the big states vote 100% for one candidate. Eliminating the EC would force candidates to campaign everywhere, for every vote.

There is some question about whether or not President counts as “holding office”. It hasn’t been litigated yet. Therefore, it’s not a settled question as to if the 14th applies at all to President.

Sure, but the only avenue for enforcement is impeachment, and TFG doesn’t GAF about that.

It’s certainly antithetical to democracy. But it shouldn’t be illegal. What should be illegal is trying to push it on other people who don’t want it.

If so, I don’t think it’s the same. If I vote for Candidate A, and Candidate A wins my state, but — due to Candidate B winning the nationwide popular — my state changes their votes to Candidate B.

When people have said “We want all votes to count”, I’ve long pointed out that, unless a vote is unanimous, lots of votes never count.

Yes, that I was replying to, and I am quoting you to avoid that confusion again.

If that is what you think, then there is (as you later pointed out) no way for all votes to count. In which case, so what? Someone is going to win, and someone is going to lose. I’d rather the popular vote winner get the win, even if that means my state doesn’t vote for the winner of the state. If it’s a popular vote, presidential nominees would be campaigning in California and Texas, Delaware and Wyoming, not just Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and any other swing states.

That sounds exactly like complaining that your county voted one way and your state another, just on a smaller scale. If everyone understands that it’s a popular vote of the nation, why should it be any different when you vote for the losing candidate?

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact changes how a state allocates its electoral votes. Thus, there is no need to amend the Constitution. As a matter of fact, nothing in the Constitution prevents a state from using the toss of a coin to determine where its votes go. The NPVIC gives their votes to the winner of the popular vote nationwide, but only once enough states to hit 270 have signed on. It currently stands at 205 electoral votes.
