Yesterday I attended a Remembrance Day service (at our school. The only vet left that actually saw battle was a Vietnam vet. This ironic, since Canada did not officially send troops, he joined the U.S. army. He comes to the school quite often, to serve as an elder.I asked him once if he had met my cousin, as he was commanding the U.S. Eighth Army in the early sixties, but it turned out he did not join until after my cousin Lloyd was forced to retire in 1964.
I do get the joke and I do find it funny, but it does illustrate urban bias and ignorance. Very few farmers wear straw hat and bib overalls. And close to half of all farmers are women.
At the moment, there is an election going on, way too long a campaign. The poll show a very close race (the Mike Duffy scandal is a real factor, Harper has been caught in a lie). The US may take notice if the NDP wins, they are a socialist party. Go NDP!!!
In Alberta we still have Farmer’s day, I think it it is June 8th this year.
