My parents house had beautiful oak hardwood floors everywhere except the kitchen and bathrooms. They chose to cover it up with carpet everywhere except for my and my brothers’ bedrooms. I never did know why they excluded us. We were all young teens by then.
After my brothers moved out, dad put a carpet in their old bedroom and used it for an office. By the time he passed and we were cleaning out the house, that carpet was so worn down that we could see the hardwood floors in several places.
Growing up, my parents bedroom was inviolate. We were not allowed inside unless invited. We weren’t quite so strict with our family, but it still wasn’t “grand central”.
When we moved into our last house, the previous owner had put porcelain tile in all the rooms except the master bedroom. When it gets to be 110+ in the summer, that tile stays a lot cooler. Throw rugs softened it a bit in the living room where we had the TV.
I’ve been watching the early episodes of “This Old House” from the 80’s. Some of the wallpapers that get chosen for these houses is absolutely hideous by today’s standards.
We have our own separate shut-off valve now. The underground “vault” for it is still standing open. I assume that is for an inspection as the new vault for the other two units is still sitting next to the hole. As it turns out, they did turn off the water on Tuesday while I was out and about. I feel so much better now with the separate shut-off. The HOA pays all the water bills, but if we have to turn it off for some reason, I won’t be shutting off my two neighbors’ water as well.
It’s going to be another “warm” one today. (TV weather forecaster’s word, not mine.) The forecast for today and tomorrow is 101. It’s already 84 at 8 AM! After that, it’s another set of yo-yo’s, though it never gets below 80 except at night.
“dirt” brown always works.
