To quote Iñigo Montoya’s reply to Vizzini, “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”

No, the progressives tended to support some version of communitarianism (which does not mean Soviet-style communism, though some Westerners did indeed go that far) or socialism. At least since early modern times, i.e., since the rise of the nation-state and the Enlightenment, progressives had nothing to do with proto-fascism. See 16th century England, 17th century Treaty of Westphalia, 18th century France, 19th century Germany, or the 20th century Spanish Civil War. I’ll lay down my Ph.D. against any card you care to play.

I have an ankle-length wool coat I bought in Jordan years ago. To think of it, I have quite a number of pieces from Jordan, Turkey (before Erdoğan), and US/Canadian companies that focus on comfortable and modest dressing. Because I’m a blue-eyed blonde and very sun-sensitive, swimsuits with complete coverage introduced me to the genre.

I used to have some Land’s End and L.L. Bean outerwear, but it no longer suits my climate or urban style. It sure is warm; if I ever go to Sápmi or the Shetlands in winter (I’ve only been in summer), those two retailers will be high on my list.

I tried growing cherry tomatoes, but the raccoons always got to them first.

OT: Are you familiar with a Michigan (US) company named Elderly Instruments? A wonderful source of instruments, etc., which you aficionados might enjoy. Though I have purchased or been given many things, my favorite is their mug that says, “Tune It or Die.”

I tried various literary sites and only found crickets. Here, however, is a snatch from G. K. Chesterton : “No one sees a delicate absurdity in a stone falling down. No man stops in the road and roars with laughter at the sight of the snow coming down…”

Georgia also has some short clips on her Patreon site, which I like to plug at every possible chance. All levels of membership get access to the same content, and she starts at $1 USD per month to keep the site affordable.

I was too hasty; Amazon carries used copies at a quite reasonable price. FYI for other interested Orbsters: Mainstay (1988) by Maggie Strong is an autobiography of a marriage, written by a wife whose husband develops a life-changing, progressive disease. The chapters alternate between her personal experience and more general advice about managing emotions, finances, sexuality, etc. Resources are dated, but overall I’ve found the book very helpful and have lent my copy to others.
