    I worked at The Houston Chronicle from 81-87. The Houston Post was owned by the Hobby family, and the Chronicle was owned by the non-profit Houston Endowment Fund. When I was there, they spent all their time decertifying 10 unions so they could make it attractive to buy. They did, we were bought by Hurst.

    Goss made a press called a Metro for large newspapers, and a smaller one called The Urbanite for smaller newspapers…large papers had 3-story presses, multiple lines going at the same time, often housed in glass buildings so the public could see them running, take tours, etc.
