It amazes me how deep everyone gets about this comic strip. By the way, I do mean that in a good way. Love this community.

that is true… too bad I did not have the time actually explain what you just declared. This leads me to another thing… that I’m not going to go into extreme details… but that is the “Side Investment” that all teachers make during their supposed break. Professional development, taking extra classes to be better qualified and try to climb the salary steps, yet many of us need to invest money and time. You are right WE ARE NOT sitting BBQing all summer long. And yes… our paychecks get a differential taken off to cover for the summer months, otherwise, we only get pay for 10 months… basically there is no salary for summer, unless deducted from our total salary.

It is actually!! Our local school district and the neighboring school districts have tremendous teacher shortages due to many reasons, including student behavior, rapidly changing technology, and low pay, low pay, low pay, low pay…. did I mention low pay? Teacher lifetime expectancy is now 5 years… in our school district alone, we need 227 teachers!!! And NOBODY wants to teach because of the malarky teachers need to go through.Local colleges and universities in my area report that students enrolling in Teacher Education courses have dropped 86%!!While teachers get automatic pay raises and long summer holidays, the money is not enough and many teachers end up getting part-time jobs to supplement their income during the summer and beyond. Also teaching is one of the most stressful jobs in the U.S. Teachers’ work duties extend well beyond the school day hours. Many teachers also have crappy marriages (NOT ALL OF THEM) due to those extended hours. A teacher works 14 hour days. Some school sites are open on the weekends so that teachers can catch up on planning, preparing lessons, assessment grading, etc.

True, I agree with your comment. But, you have to understand the fact that cultural upbringing is not the same everywhere. I as mentioned, we had the good sense to check them, to see if the weapons were loaded. Living in the Canadian wilderness or in the jungles of Cambodian it is a common thing to see. Yes, we have a different cultural point of view about gun safety and common sense in the U.S. yet we have lots of shooting in our cities (I’m not deflecting just pointing things I have observed and lived through).Gun culture in the U.S. is unique. This may not apply at all but overprotectiveness might be playing a factor here, you can wear a helmet to protect yourself while riding a bike or http://justacarguy.blogspot.com/2020/08/evel-knievel-inspired-lot-of-kids-to-do.html

I remember, my cousins and I used to play cops and robbers with real guns. But WE HAD THE GOOD SENSE NOT TO USE THEM LOADED. We never had an issue, except my grandfather when he realize how dirty we left them.
