Here in central IL we have had snow constantly on the ground since Jan. 2. Fortunately it only comes 1 or 2 inches at a time and shrinks a little (I wonder if that’s what Uncle Kenny means by sublimation?) before the next time. The last 2 days the temperature has been above freezing and all but the drifts finally melted. Like everyone else east of the Great Plains, we are expecting below zero temperatures for the next 3 days. My middle-aged son said he was tempted to build a snowman but changed his mind.

I still drink Tang whenever I’ve forgotten to buy fresh orange juice. I also use it in a pork chop marinade recipe.

I did that when I was younger but now I run out of steam half way through, sit down to catch my breath, and promptly fall asleep.

Pizza was introduced as a school menu item when I was in the 9th grade — pizza toppings on half of a hamburger bun. It was pretty good actually. That was in the 60s.

I’d rather have a bed that doesn’t come undone while I’m in it than get all hung up about perfectly folded sheets in the closet. I’ll stick with my fitted bottom sheets.

I hear about D&D all the time from my children and grandchildren. They all play. I still do not understand the intricacies of the game, but I think the dice are interesting looking. One of my sons has a large collection of them.

Many years ago my husband and I and another couple traveled to Chicago to watch the Bears play at Soldier Field on a cold January day with temperatures below zero. If any footballs were going to shatter from the cold it would have been then. Brrrr.

In my opinion, the best English translation of Dante is by Dorothy L. Sayers, published by Penguin Classics. She was 2/3 of the way through translating Paradiso at the time of her death and the book was completed by Barbara Reynolds. I read 3 or 4 other translations before finally finding Sayers.

And nothing aggravates my asthma like some idiot burning leaves, forcing me to stay indoors and forego all pleasant fall activities.

We accept the premise of this comic but is it really true? I don’t actually see it much here when I go out and about. Could be a regional thing.
