I got up at 6 a.m., went to look in my son’s room, and he was gone.
Ran downstairs and found him in the living room. The model train from Santa was opened, the tracks assembled, the cars hooked up to the engine, and he was looking at the instruction sheet on how to hook up the control module to run the train.
He was 5 years old. I made coffee. He got the train running. Yup, he studied engineering in college.
When my grands were younger, I would send a box of sweets and cash, with the caveat that 10% would go to a charity of their choice. My wonderful DIL told me they’ve been supporting their schools’ emergency clothing/food pantries.
Fixed income here. $30 will fill my car for the month. Or almost pay for 1 of my prescriptions. 1/2 of a visit to the vet. Still using a CD player for music. Or playing it myself (poorly, but improving) on my mountain dulcimer—until the dog whimpers…
You fit in just fine. I celebrate Winter Solstice. Family celebrates Christmas. I’ll put up my wrought iron tree this coming weekend; they decorated all their trees on the Thanksgiving break. I say “Celebrate the uniqueness that is you!”
