About Nancy’s origin (and why she lives with Fritzi): In a story arc of the original “Fritzi Ritz” strip in the 1930s, Nancy worries about being sent to the “Orphans Home” if Fritzi marries a new boyfriend — which makes it pretty clear that her parents are dead. (No other details ever were provided, as far as I know.)
I wonder if this cartoon was inspired by the Momus song “Hippopotamomus.” It was about two hippos, not two dinosaurs, but what happens to them is identical to what happens in this strip. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFjvzT4i4gg
The Nancy Carbonaro interview is complete fiction, written as a parody, and has absolutely no basis in fact. The original “interviewer” said so in an August 2018 Facebook thread about this topic that appeared on the “How to Read Nancy Reading Group” page there. Go to that page and type “Carbonaro” in the “Search This Page” box for full details and to see all comments. The article on this GoComics page that treats the interview as fact should be removed.
If a moderator reads these comments: Would you please ask someone at GoComics to change the Nancy-and-Sluggo character illustration that appears at the top right of this page to one that was drawn by Ernie Bushmiller? It is wrong to have a Guy Gilchrist illustration there, because these strips are not written or drawn by him. Thanks.
