I can see how nicotine was addictive, but I truly never understood how anyone STARTED smoking. The coughing, the burning in the lungs, what was the incentive to “get used to it”??
It originally WAS! In the initial Roman calendar, a few months were named after specific gods/goddesses, the rest were numeric by Latin numbers. And the starting month was different. Things were moved around when Julius Caesar took over, and after his death, the month Quintilis (five) was renamed ‘July’ in his honor. Even later, Sextilis (sixth) was renamed ‘August’ in honor of Roman Emperor Augustus in 8 BC. Further changes were made by Pope Gregory XIII to the current “Gregorian” calendar we use now, but those names were retained.
Ah, got it! I played trombone from middle school through high school, but after languishing in my attic for a few years after college, I gave it away to a friend of mine whose band was taking off, and was interested in experimenting with new instruments. Wonder if it ended up in a dumpster somewhere along the way :D
yeah, that’s what I’m curious about. I assume the “by Aung Thang” part is standard as the creator of the comic, but usually quotes used are referenced directly.
Biggest drop happens after “Arrival of Children” :D
