Geez, they just can’t let Annie go, can they? Still, a very Merry Christmas to Mike & the entire creative team at Dick Tracy, who remain dedicated to keeping Tracy in the business of catching the bad guys as we enter the 2nd quarter of the 21st century. And a very Merry Christmas to all in the commentary community, & to all a good nite.
Some tough-looking customers in that joint. Puts me in mind of the seedy bar Art Carney was hanging out in, blowing off his job as a department store Santa in that classic Twilight Zone episode, “Night of the Meek.”
Yeah, any would-be killer would go to a law enforcement facility to kill his victim, & be sure to leave a paper trail documenting his presence around the time of the murder as well. Move over, Brain, there’s a new super-smart criminal genius in Tracy’s rogue’s gallery!
I think I’m beginning to understand. Dick Tracy is no longer a serial narrative strip telling a coherent story, but a daily gag strip, & some days the gags are funnier than others.
In the spirit of the season, I’ll be charitable & say today’s strip is poking satirical fun at the characters & the mystery genre & is intended as a tribute to Jim Abrahams, whom we recently lost.
Since when did Dick Tracy become the detective equivalent of Gen. McClellan?
