Society has given me plenty of messages about how I should shape/present myself (generally based on what pleases men). The natural state of my hair is gray — a big no-no for a woman. So, yeah, I have had similar experiences.
Not that I think it’s a competition or anything. I just don’t need you mansplaining things that you have zero experience with.
I’m a white woman. I dye my hair turquoise. Does that mean that I, too, have “turned my back on my heritage?” Or am I maybe just having fun with a different look?
When my doctors’ offices started tacking on the credit card fee, I dug out the old checkbook. The office staff don’t like the extra processing; too bad. (I suspect that ends up costing them more in personnel time/delay of funds than the CC fee, but that’s not my problem.)
