Clearly this was someone with bad intentions throughout.
My musings were more along your path of the good guy with a gun, and at what point do we suddenly realize they are a bad guy with a gun.
My favored response to the GGWaG meme is that (almost) everyone is a GGWaG until a point where they are a BGWaG. The cognitive failure the pro gun group suffers is that they don’t realize that pretty much everyone has such a point, and that simply having guns in the mix greatly increases the probability of their use.
I wonder at what point in time did the murderer actually break the law?
Was it just walking in the open carrying 2 semi-automatic rifles and a pistol in public?
The Governor just signed an open carry law. I’ll assume it was not in force yet, and that open carry before that law was restricted. Then it would depend upon that restriction/licensing.
Was it the moment they stepped on school property? Are there laws constraining gun possession on school grounds?
Was it the moment they went through a side door of the school? In many places entering a school without official permission is either not allowed or explicitly illegal. Would having guns modify that situation?
Or was it only when the perpetrator aimed a weapon and pulled the trigger?

What has changed: To a degree, who the money goes to.
