Exactly! But when you live in a fairly rural area, there are always mice to begin with. So I let them go at a nature camp about a mile and a half up the road, but the occasional one manages to find its way in anyway, eventually. I just figure their little lives mean as much to them as mine does to me.

You have to set them free a mile or more from where you catch them or they will find their way back, which I do. We’re pretty rural so have lots of fields and areas where they can have a happy life that isn’t in my closet or the bottom drawer of my stove. Probably came in on a piece of wood for the fire. It only takes them a minute to warm up and skeedaddle off somewhere and we wouldn’t see them because they’re so quick. We’ve sealed off all their other entry ways…we think.

Did I mention that we occasionally share our home with mice as well? And a month or so ago, since I free feed Loaner Cat, I wondered why her dry food was completely gone every morning but she wasn’t gaining weight since it usually takes her a couple days at least to empty that bowl. Since I feed her upstairs because Beau is a mooch, I didn’t think much of it until I went in the closet up there only to find the closet floor along the edges lined with cat food. At first, I tried to figure out how she was getting in the closet and then it dawned on me, it was the work of one mouse (after I caught her and set her free) emptying that darned food bowl every night and hoarding the food. Little tiny thing had about 50 times her weight in food hoarded!!

I have that book as well. I thought the story line was brilliant! While “just a comic,” it still showed how older people had a life and how much younger people never give it a thought. Edie was pretty awesome :)

I admit, I stopped reading the strip for the same reason. It really changed and I didn’t care for the direction anymore, sadly.

9 Chickweed Lane by Brooke McEldowney does Hallmarks of Felinity in his strip. Solange is a Siamese who is a very typical Siamese and that’s the first time I read that word-phrase, Felinity.

Coffee in the pantry and my husband needs his Coke Zero like an addict needs coke. He’s terrible. And as much as he’s tried, he can’t give it up. Other than that, I keep a big enough variety that I can always feed us something and the animal’s food is on auto-ship.

When we lost our Blue Boy, Murphy, last year this month, we’d auto ordered his food from Chewy (we get Loaner Cat’s from them as well.) I canceled Murphy’s Auto Ship and a customer service rep called to see if they could help find something else for him. When I tried to tell her that Murphy had passed through my complete sobbing and inability to talk, she was great, understanding and just all around awesome. A week later, I got a bouquet of flowers from them and a card that a tree had been planted in his name and I sobbed for hours all over again. Wonderful company. Truly wonderful.

It’s very different than the ‘aging’ forgetting. I can actually feel forgetting it. When I mentioned it to my neurologist, she said other patients have reported the same thing, that it’s a physical reaction. Quite bizarre. Everything goes blank for several seconds up to a minute. My husband was getting very frustrated when it first happened until the doc sent home some literature about it. Now he just waits patiently, but it was weird the first couple of times it happened. And a little scary!
