    The shoe: brilliant continuity!

The original Powell’s technical bookstore on the Park Blocks in Portland, OR was in a converted firehouse. One day I discovered to my surprise that it still had a fire pole connecting the first and second floor. Oh, how I wanted to sneak upstairs and then take fast way down!

It’s even weirder than that… head lice don’t live “down there” and vice versa, even though they are essentially the same species. Or so says our pediatrician.

True fact: printers also place unique patterns of nearly invisible dots on copies. Just ask Reality Winner about that.

Long ago, in what seems like another lifetime, my new bride and I would go to the Oberlin reservoir to cool off during the heat of summer. Our first trip out there, sharing the giant truck tire inner tube, we discovered the reservoir was populated by many many tiny fish, and they liked to come up to you and nibble on your exposed skin… it tickled so much that we didn’t relax much at all in the cool water!

    It’s a Midwest thing.
