It was that year, but it was back in summer, and Elly "thought’ Liz wouldn’t make it. However, it looks like things changed.

Why do you think I needed this explained to me? I understood the joke just fine, and was simply comparing my dad to Darryl.

Also, coming out is a big deal. It’s terrifying. Connie and Greg made it worse. No parents are perfect.

GRAPES AND RAISINS ARE TOXIC TO DOGS!

I’m not saying it can’t be forgiven. I’m saying it does irreparable damage to the relationship. Even if amends are made and accepted, the trauma will always be there.

It doesn’t matter how good the relationship was: this kind of toxic interaction can destroy families in the blink of an eye.

“Accept me or die” is definitely not what I’m saying, nor is it what any sane person would say. The moral here is “I am your child. My orientation can’t change. Since you reacted like this, our relationship will never be the same.”

Lawrence left because he felt like the woman who has raised him and loved him from birth had turned his back on him. All Lawrence did was come out. Connie and Greg threw him out and treated him like garbage, and now they regret doing that, so they expect the relationship to resume as it was, and pretend everything’s all hunky-dory. I’m glad they tried to apologize for reacting like that, but they wouldn’t have needed to apologize for that if they didn’t react like that in the first place.

Just run, boys. It’s Summer Vacation, you’re off school grounds—He has no power here.
