“That’s how music has always been” I would tend to disagree with that. Especially when you take a long look at the music of the 60"s thru 80’s. In reality, there are only 12 individual notes in the musical scale. so undoubtably some songs will sound similar. “More Than a Feeling” by Boston, “Sweet Home Alabama” by Skynyrd and “Handle With Care” by the Traveling Wilburys all use the same chord progression and fingering (D,C,G) but sound completely different.

But the original poster who started this thread got it right, in the past 30 some years or so every song is either “poor me” or in hip hop and rap it’s “aint I great, don’t you wish you were me”. In the last century musicians could tell a complete story in 5 minutes or less, whether it was about love, relationships or social issues

    BTW….Taylor who??

His death provided the means, or opportunity to have sins forgiven. To take advantage of that opportunity requires repentance…which is turning away from a bad course and being determined to not repeat it

“I get a kick out of David Bowie singing “I’m afraid of Americans. God is an American”. I have no idea what he means, but I find it funny.”

Once in an interview, Don Henley (of the Eagles) said “God is not an American”

“Jesus and the early Christians were Jews and his core group adhered to the Nazirite Vow from Numbers 6:1 – 21. Christianity as we know it today came from St Paul.”

The Nazirite vow was for a specific period of time and was part of the Mosaic law covenant. Jesus made it clear that his death ended that covenant, which was only intended to lead to the Messiah to begin with. There is no evidence in the Bible that Jesus or any of the 1st century Christians took on the Nazirite vow. (for example, they drank wine, which was prohibited in the Nazirite vow. Also they touched dead bodies , something also restricted in the vow Num. 6:1-7, Mark 5:41, Acts 20:9,10) They recognized that their dedication to God (and following Christ’s example) was for life and not for a fixed period of time. The letters that Paul wrote coincided with the writings of the other writers in the NT, so true Christianity is based on the whole Bible

" It’s hard for me to see a clear path to “salvation” when the forest is so very thick with religion and its rules"…….reminds me of an example regarding a manufacturer who makes an automobile and then provides an owners maintenance and repair manual. 10 individual mechanics have 10 different ideas or rules on how to repair the vehicle. How would you determine which of the mechanics (if any) is using the correct method?

“Those were ‘medical’ terms everyone spoke in everyday speech.”

….and you know this because you were there and experienced it first hand? Or because you assume it to be the case based on writings of others who also were not there and were assuming?
