In the late 1st A. C. E. slaves in wealthy households became so plentiful it became as ridiculous as what American billionaires do with their money. Slaves specifically to set out dishes, another group to pick them up. Slaves had such micromanaged tiny job(s), because there was just too many and not enough tasks to accomplish in the home. Manumissionwas fashionable, but the government did not care for all these newly freedmen taking jobs middle and lower class Romans held. Often for much less pay.

I’ve been studying Roman history for many years. Actually took two semesters of Latin in college. I would recommend reading the Roman poet, Catullus, by direct translation from Latin. Powerful stuff from the best lyric poet of the late Republic period. His stuff would make one heck of a rockn’roll album. Otherwise, I am both amazed and amused at times how much Roman culture still influences modern laws and customs. Everyone needs a hobby, eh?

I disagree. When what you and what group believes supercedes facts, logic, and reason, bad things happen.

Let me guess… You are all A-Ok with capital punishment even those many of those executed may be innocent, and/or given an unfair trial. But that’s cool because the state says so. Abortion in no more a crime than accusing anyone eating a fingernail of being a cannibal.

In ancient Rome, slaves would actually be paid a pittance by their masters. If the slave saved and invested in very limited enterprises, he could at times, buy his own freedom. He would be required to wear in public a small pointed cap called a “Pylos” to broadcast his status as a self made freedman.

In that case, male master*ation is murder, as is any case of intercour*e without conception. The same with ovulation without conception. Cool, the whole American people can sentence themselves to capital punishment and the world can be so much better without this nation of Looney Tunes.
