Ironically, it was Goldwater who sounded the alarm about the Christaliban:

Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can’t and won’t compromise. I know; I’ve tried to deal with them.”
He didn’t say “darn” but the auto censor won’t let me use the D-word.
For the first time in history I was a Yankees “fan”, but only because I wanted to see Harrison Bader do well on the big stage.
That was a Mike Luckovich toon, and the money bags going out the back door were labeled “Medicare” and “Social Security”. Lately, Rick Scott and Kevin McCarthy have admitted openly that they want to severely limit those programs.
