Well, housing prices have been unaffordable for a long time. My late husband and I had bought a lovely house in Massachusetts, but couldn’t afford to keep up with the mortgage when we retired. So we sold the house for a good profit and bought a house in France for $17,000. Then RyanAir started serving the area we were in so our house value jumped up to about $100,000 and we bought the house I’m now living in. Large house, 4 acres of land, outbuildings and a greenhouse. Retiring to France was a good choice. Plus, the weather is better than in Massachusetts and health care is super and costs me $600 a year.
