Romeo is used in spelling. Roger still means “message received”.

Roger was the US phonetic alphabet for R in WW-II. Since it fit “does not sound like any other in the new International, has some meaning in many languages, and was used by other nation’s alphabet”, it was kept. Wilco missed several requirements and so was replaced with whiskey, which did. US Fox was replaced with Foxtrot for the “makes sense in other languages” rule.

In the old days, there was a concern about a “balanced ticket”. Usually didn’t get past non-contiguous states, but the idea was to get as many identifying with some part of the ticket as possible. Therefore I nominate Warren/Castro. Geography: MA/TX; Gender: female/male; Ethnos: white/brown; Experience: academia, Senate/municipal, cabinet; Age: 70/45; Religion: United Methodist/Roman Catholic. No other combination provides this variety.

Immigrants from Japan were not permitted citizenship, although their US-born children had 15th amendment rights. Under pressure after the Estavan lighthouse shelling, Canada restricted theirs to east of the Okanagan, but property was declared Crown Assets, and returned after the war.
