Other stores had them too. And, like you, I found them fascinating. No such thing as credit cards. All transactions were cash and no cash was at the counter. So your cash went into the tube carrier thingy with a hand written receipt. The system did its “whoooosh” and in a few minutes back came the same thingy with your change and the totaled receipt. I can remember a few such stores even into the 1970’s.
There is a hunting season for doves around here which I find dreadful. Killing for food is one thing but killing just for sport is definitely abhorrent.
