   Playing “Blame [this character] for everything”. “No, blame [that character] for everything” is also tiresome, especially when it is quite obvious that both characters are at-fault, made dumbass decisions and ruined their friendship over the lack of communication and clarity.

   You have a great attitude re:your detractors. People have the right to disagree with you, and you have the right to reply, or Ghost them if they are totally unreasonable.

   I was very careful to word my post as an inquiry, a series of questions so I could truly understand your thought process. I did not want to put words into your mouth, so I made sure you could confirm or deny what I think you meant.

   I’m glad that we do understand each other!

   All right… so, were you thinking of ST:TOS, and how they made the groundbreaking move of casting Lt. Uhura, and giving her rank and authority, and a presence on TV that was unprecedented and very progressive for its time (1966)? Bets had a lot of promise when we first saw her, dressed as Uhura.

   Were you dismayed and concerned at the lows that Bets has sunk to, becoming a melanin-enhanced Shannon? And the connection between the her, and “Code of Honor” was just some personal thoughts and ruminations about the sadness of seeing negative characterizations of black people in media, with the Star Trek/Luann connection not related to the plot (the actual story)?

   I too am hoping that Bets bounces back and grows the hell up and acts her age once more.

   Don’t worry about what other people think. Your thoughts and feelings re: Bets and “Code of Honor” are yours, and if you have a way of connecting them, that’s OK. Just like my “Workplace Bully” and “The Count of Monte Cristo”. A skeptic can say, “You’re NO Edmond Dantes”, but nobody can ever discount how I feel when I read the novel, and see some parallels (however tenuous) with my own experience.

   There is no reason to believe that Tiff was going to do her French theme dinner as a “gift”, regardless of Bet’s desires. That’s a stretch. The word “a gift” never appeared anywhere in that arc. And the original intent was truly: Tiff as the business/service provider and Bets as the customer. $300 was the planned payment. Not a friend-to-friend favor and gift.

   At least we are slowly coming closer to an agreement that both girls were talking at each other instead of talking to each other. Bets should have checked up with Tiff a few days before, “Are we still on? You got everything we need? Pirates, right?”.

   If she hadn’t, it was also Tiff’s responsibility to call and confirm, “April 11th, right? You ran off before I heard you agree to anything. French Sophisticate. And please dress appropriately”.

   Oh, please do tell! It’s just bits and bytes in the Internet. Not a huge essay… just a paragraph or two linking Luann with “Code of Honor”?

   I had shared, on another forum, how my experience with a Workplace Bully had triggered my additional love of the novel, “The Count of Monte Cristo”.

   That was a demonstration of Customer Approval and why it’s mandatory. You even (now) said that the customer can see there is nothing they want and leave. You said the restaurant is offering what they offer. I agree. So the onus is on the customer to a) sit down and accept they offer with the customer’s approval or b) leave. No money changes hands. No food prepared. No loss.

   So, again, why would a French restaurant, or Tiff, go ahead and prepare something without Customer Approval?

   Oh yes they do! Even if the patron sat down that same day, and the waiter brought over a menu, and had some recommendations for what to order, they’d have to get Customer Approval for the dish before they can cook it and bring it. They don’t just plop down what they want to customer to eat. Suppose the person was just looking, didn’t see anything they liked and wanted to get up and leave, but the restaurant doesn’t require Customer Approval to bring out the food?

   Moreso for a dinner, or an event planned in advance.

   Sticking to my guns here. Customer Approval is mandatory.

   I said the same thing days ago… if you run a French restaurant and a person comes in looking for a Chinese banquet for, say, June 30 and you try to tell them that you only serve French food and they go running off joyfully, anticipating roast duck and steamed black bean fish, why the HELL would you be preparing that French dinner on June 30? That costs you time and labor and money for something that the customer did not agree on.

   That’s why the Customer Approval part is so important IMHO.

   Depends. if the writer(s) want to continue making Bets into a Shannon, then yes, they might take her down the road of childish, hor-blooded revenge. But, if Bets stays true to her original characterization, and if she is still pissed at Tiff, Bets will simply a) stop with the homework assistance b) Let Tiff go ahead with her TTf2 concept and let it crash n’ burn when Tiff’s lack of Customer Service skills becomes evident with other clients.

   Grown-ups don’t sabotage others. They say “give ’em enough rope…” and let the cards fall.

    I’m a Deep Space Nine person myself, so I had to look up ST:TNG: Code of Honor. How does this episode relate to what was going on in the Luann strip?
