I realized fairly early in my 2nd decade that a solid understanding of algebra was fundamental to understanding the world and how math interacts with it. We use algebra every time we try to figure out an answer to any problem that uses math.
Now calculus? Functionally, nearly every use of calculus has been integrated into our computerized world – it seems the only folks who need to do calculus from first principles are the folks writing the software.
