You’re absolutely right, Geeze. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s $525M piece of the country’s total annual budget of $6.3T (that’s 0.00833% of the annual budget) is uslessly being spent allowing people incredible cultural, artistic, entertainment, educational and public affairs programming that commercial outlets are not incentivized to produce. And to think we set those goals as budget needs is . . .well . . .enlightened.
And it’s convenient to forget the impact those 60’s and 70’s protests had on this country. We wouldn’t have had the national focus on ending the Viet Nam war had it not been for the student-led protests. The fat cats making profits from the war machines had no end-the-war interests until the young people being conscripted to risk their lives started protesting. Civil Rights would not have advanced as it did unless student protests and unrest drew international attention to our domestic horror story. And now students, again, are saying the slaughter of innocent lives (whether Israeli or Palestinian) is enough. Their actions have attracted world attention and focus on resolving this war. And it’s not a protest against the Jewish people ( even Israeli protestors are anti-war .Org/2024/01/19/1225651180/israel-tel-aviv-protest-gaza-war) and it’s not antisemitism, it’s anti human carnage!
Please Leo, enlighten me with your constitutional wisdom and knowledge. Please share what constitutional principle is being violated when an individual is held in contempt of a court order to NOT publically disparage or otherwise threaten jurors, witnesses, judges, court staff, or their families involved in a trial in which you are the defendent? And don’t just give me your canned “Free Speech” argument unless you are prepared to discuss the logical limitations ANY freedom has in a civilized society.
