   Pearls has a problem where the jokes are either funny, cringe worthy, or offensive. Pastis can sometimes make you cry with moving strips. This… is not one of them. This is about as offensive as you can get. I am strait, nut a friend of mine is gay, an they have told me that they can never tell a whole half of their family due to how they would react to finding out. You just can’t mock something that brings real anguish to many people. If this strip doesn’t get Pearls dropped from ant least one newspaper, I have lost all hope for this country.

   This is the ultimate irony. The bible says nothing about not eating meat, but there is the laws of keeping Kosher, which (to over simplify) forbid the eating of certain animals. One of the few examples of animals that you are specifically told NOT to eat is pig. (Though, Christians do not keep kosher, so Father Gus is excused. It’s still ironic.)

   This is so sad. So depressing. Can we all just step back and appreciate Stephan Pastis, with strips like these, and his ability to make you just stop and think. These rare strips are shining examples the greatest of what can be achieved with a comic strip.

   The sad this is that this is only metaphorically showing what she is actually doing. Though if I where the cartoonist it would be her hanging her campaign; either shown as a button or a sign.

   IT says graven images because (to my knowledge) all visual art from that time was engraved and then painted over. Images are usually interpreted as metaphors. And on your last point, where is that from? I’ve never heard that one.

   This strip is wrong or offensive on so may levels.1. The whole gag is based of of the stereotype that men are stubborn and won’t admit when they are wrong.2.Clearly the cartoonist didn’t look into Jewish and Christian thought. The bible doesn’t just tell you to be kind. It tells you how to be kind. What to do and what not to do. How to have a fair and just legal system. (I will admit that some things are a little out dated, but that happens over four thousand years.)3.The problem with just saying “Be kind to each other and not do anything stupid” is that kindness and what is stupid is relative.(for example, slave owners in the 1850’s justified themselves by saying that it was a kindness to those they enslaved.) That is why there are role modles for us to follow such as Abraham and Jesus4.God.Is.Not.Male. The bible uses male pronouns most of the time, true, but it also uses female ones. The only reason it uses male pronouns at all is because in the original Hebrew, there was no non-gender-specific pronoun,so male ones are used instead. Also, all images of God as male must be discounted on the grounds that the second comandment say that, “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image” which means no idols and no images of God.Also, many other people already pointed this out but many texts outside of the bible have talked about this.     The sad thing is that thanks to [insert whomever you want to blame and how it’s their fault here]. This is not a viable answer. Jews are good people. Most people from all religions are good people. What is to blame is the human need to justify their fears in the things and people that are not like them. The key to ending hate is to stop pointing fingers, stop blaming people, and end stereotypes. Try to see things from the other perspective. Remember that we are all people, no matter what we look like or in what faith (or lack there of) we believe.
