Came here for Breaking Cat News, but have found some other great comics—sweet ones like Snow Sez, Cul de Sac, Cat's Cafe and Ten Cats and ones a "little off center" like Last Kiss, Lio and Spirit of the Staircase. Was COVID-laid off in March 2020 and now "enjoying" retirement.

How very sad! Bug wasn’t quite nine years old; that’s very young to lose a cat. Many condolences to her family and all her fans.

I haven’t been anywhere for THREE WEEKS (rhinitis/chest congestion), so haven’t been in the car to listen to KEOM (Mesquite high school radio). Means I’ve missed getting to hear The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don’t Be Late)! Bummer. I always get a big kick out of it. Alvin: “OKAY!”

I am REALLY tired of GoComics going down—I’ll be reading along and trying to “like” comments, but have to try multiple times before my like will take; if I try to refresh the page, I’ll get the dreaded “we’re overwhelmed, try later” message. This has been going on for about two weeks now! Get it together, GC!

What a good friend! How clever to make the money gift interactive. Glad you’re mostly over the flu—I’ve had for THREE WEEKS the rhinitis/chest congestion I keep reading that “everyone” has—definitely not flu, nor COVID. I ordered a 24-box carton of Puffs as I was going through a box of 180 tissues in just a day, or two for a while. My nose has been exfoliated so much it’s now 20 years younger than the rest of my face.

What a nice twosome! And especially nice to send a generous amount of leftovers home with you.

Our sweet Speaker-to-Animals passed Christmas morning 2003. Our girlcat had been my stalwart companion and support many sleepless nights in 2000 and 2001 as I went through treatment for breast cancer. She had been a little “off” for a few days and I had taken her to our vet on the 23rd. She was dehydrated, but perked up considerably after a saline IV.

At that time, Speaker was an only cat (our first two had passed); we didn’t want to leave her home alone, so we packed her into the car with us to travel a couple of hours up from the D/FW Metroplex to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas with Mother and family members in Wichita Falls. Speaker coped well with and settled in quite happily into my old bedroom.

I woke up quite early Christmas morning (I could smell the bacon and eggs Mother was frying in the kitchen for breakfast) and realized that Speaker wasn’t responsive and only wanted to be in a loaf position. Hubby and I stayed with her; Speaker passed within a few hours and we took her home that afternoon. We took a lot of comfort in knowing that she had enjoyed being with us in the car, hadn’t been left home alone and that we were with her when she gently passed.

Mother was Puerto Rican and grew up on PR, so she was familiar with hurricanes. The sturm and drang was quite scary, of course, as it was happening. We lived in base housing—a quite sturdy house that had aluminum louvers on all the windows. We had some inches of rain (maybe, six?) sweep in under doors and were without power for more than a week. We had a small concrete patio off the kitchen/dining room and cooked outside on our little Weber-type grill until utilities were back up.

Happy Birthday! Many happy returns of the day! Hope you have Christmas dinner leftovers so you can just fix a plate, not cook a meal and enjoy your day.

Awww … many condolences, Governor, on the passing of your GOOD pup. That’s a long life for even a small dog, but we all wish our pet companions could stay forever. I hope the transition was gentle. RIP, Mafalda.
