Yeah, Marsha, I’ve seen confusing statements about that also. And like you, barring exceptional / unexpected circumstances I usually get a refund. But here’s what the US tax company I started using after we moved to Europe had to say about our situation (I think in 2022 April 15th was the start of a three-day weekend, hence the mention of 18 April):
“The deadline of US return filing for people living abroad is June 15th, but any taxes you’d owe would be due on April 18th (interest would be assessed if you wait to pay)”
Also if you’re a US citizen living overseas, your deadline for filing is a few months later, but as with filing an extension you still need to pay what you owe by 15 April to avoid penalties and interest.
I also think that army ants can build bridges with their bodies to get across streams. There could also be stowaway ants who came over on the boat with them.
