Al Goodwyn Creator

Al Goodwyn began cartooning in 1989 when he put his physics education and technical experience to work for an international physics publication, producing science themed cartoons over the next 28 years. In 1997, he expanded into editorial cartoons for a local newspaper. Since then he has been widely featured and has won numerous editorial cartooning awards, most recently 1st place in the 2023 Green Eyeshade Award for editorial cartooning in the southeast. Al signed on with Creators Syndicate in 2020 and produces four to five cartoons per week. His work leans to the conservative side but he often hits any side deserving to be skewered.

In three years our promised “transparent and accessible” President Biden charged right past the transparent and accessible part, took a sharp down turn from opaque, scripted press engagements, and shuffled into the latest late night TV softball feast. The biggest surprise from Biden’s visit to “Late Night” was his recall of where his shades were so he could do a dark Brandon impersonation. Of course, the crowd went wild. Oh, how far the bar has dropped.

Softball questions are expected at such a venue, but like Biden’s afternoon oatmeal, it’s a shame this is as good as it gets.

Our addled president can’t make it through a single day without a slip of the tongue, a slip of the feet, getting lost in a room, or inventing a new language that only he and the dead people he sees can understand.

Make no mistake, this isn’t dementia, and I’m painfully aware of the toll of that disease’s impact, this is just an old, feeble man who should be enjoying his life’s winter instead of Democrat elder abuse. But the re-election torture will continue and with it an attempt to compare Biden’s mental decline with Trump’s rare moments of confusion. The presidency is a tough job and every POTUS has had their “covfef” or “I’ve-been-to-57-states” gaffes.

When TDS sufferers compare the mental acuities of Trump and Biden, they make no progress knocking Trump down a peg or two. Instead it creates additional Trump defenders out of non-TDS sufferers (see this space tomorrow) who view politics through an understanding of facts, recognition of biases, and control of emotions. Democrat what-aboutism make the left appear oblivious or careless. Both are bad looks and destructive.

You seem to forget that there are two people in the relationship. Imagine the drinking, beating, promiscuous, dog kicking, drug abuser turning toward a lifestyle that supported a loving two-parent family. Wouldn’t that be a worthy resolution?

Thanks for making my point for me.

I thought that personal responsibility, moral compass, self respect, two parent homes, work ethic, and patriotism would be qualities easily defined and acknowledged as positive personal characteristics. I stand corrected. Apparently, these qualities must come with an “it depends” caveat since those limbs are too far for some to climb out on.

The good news is that cartoons in my 2023 recap are definitely agreeable to everyone. Just search “goodwyn cartoons 2023” ….. and just add “it depends” after you read each.

    Happy New Year!

That’s a good comment and concern. I assure you though that it’s okay. I did a tribute cartoon before at the request of Jean Schulz and the Charles Schulz foundation and would consider this similar. You also see strip cartoonists incorporate others’ characters in their strips on special occasions. More importantly editorial cartoonist have some free speech leeway. You’ve likely seen many editorial cartoons with Lucy yanking the football away, her psychiatrist booth, the great pumpkin, etc.

I’m still waiting for the ice age that was promised when I was a teenager. Maybe that’ll finally arrive and cancel out the warming.
